Communications in space

Space based communications form the foundation of many aspects of the modern world we take for granted, such as international telecoms, satellite TV and GPS navigation. GB4FUN offers students the chance to interact with these technologies and learn how they affect our lives.

See live pictures of the Earth from space

GB4FUN is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that enables students to access weather satellites and see pictures of the Earth in real time transmitted directly from space.

Use satellites to communicate

During the visit students are given the opportunity to use orbiting satellites to communicate with radio operators around the world.

Radio signals are transmitted through unmanned satellites or manned satellites like the International Space Station (pictured bottom left). Students can even talk to astronauts living and working on the Space Station.

An unmissable opportunity

A GB4FUN visit is an unmissable opportunity for students to get to grips with the concepts and operation of some of the most advanced and important technology in today's world.

A day at school that will be remembered for years to come.
